Club Med Resort, Suzhou
Gongshan Island, Suzhou, PRC

Located on Gonshan Island, a short boat ride from the mainland and the city of Suzhou beyond, the proposed Club Med Resort will provide 350 Superior, Deluxe and Suite rooms including all ancillary recreational and conference functions. Designed around the natural topography and flora of the island, the resort reflects a contemporary interpretation of the local Suzhou water town style both through planning and the use of materials.

Central to the resorts design, the main arrival experience for guests is a ramped walkway linking the arrival jetty to a circular feature reception building via a tea planted roof garden. Guests are then brought down vertically through a large day lit central atrium into a central amenity building. The resort design utilizes a mix of white render, grey standing seam roofs and natural timber for the accommodation buildings, which are planned around themed courtyards affording guests both privacy and views of the lake. A restaurant and bar area, designed in a modern style with green façades and timber louvres sits at the lake edge. Offering all day dining, concept dining and bar facilities this area enjoys panoramic views across the lake. A service road, screened from public areas by the use of native tree planting, runs centrally around this central landscaped area allowing all back of house functions to be discreetly serviced.
